ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Durham, NC – Just around the corner The Underground Collective is presenting its inaugural Beats & Bars Festival to be held on Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17 at The Pinhook located at 117 W. Main Street and The Vault located at 1104 Broad Street, both in Durham, North Carolina. Entering their 4th year of programming, The Underground Collective (The UGC) presents this event in an effort to provide a main stage for NC hip hop music and culture featuring live performances, a beat battle event, and panel discussions.
More than just music, The Beats & Bars Festival seeks to provide a venue to celebrate and discuss various aspects of hip hop culture including its effect on the arts, education, community activism, and more. The Triangle area has a wealth of talent and insight into these facets of the culture and our festival is here to bring as much of that ability and wisdom as possible together at one event for our citizens and visitors to enjoy .
To date, The UGC has become well known for its savvy at providing platforms for hip hop culture throughout the Raleigh-Durham community. Events of note for The Underground Collective include The UGC Beat Battle, Yo! NC Raps, and Indy Week magazine’s 2016 Best of The Triangle award winning, “That’s the Joint” open mic, all of which provide effective spaces for MC’s, producers, consumers, and supporters of hip hop culture to interact.
Headlining this year’s festival is a collection of talented artists; Greensboro’s, J.K. The Reaper, Kooley High out of Raleigh, North Carolina, Swift from Atlanta, Georgia, Big Remo from Winston-Salem, Well$ from Charlotte, and Joshua Gunn who represents the Bull City, Durham, North Carolina.
